The festivals of Hondarribia
The festivals are the perfect occasion to discover one of the most charming towns in Gipuzkoa. Several notable celebrations take place throughout the year.
The Alarde of Hondarribia
Every 8 September, since 1639, the patron festivals are held with the vow to the Virgin of Guadalupe, renewed each year in gratitude for the lifting of the French siege. The civic-religious procession is led by the armed townsfolk that give the event its name.
Kutxa Eguna
On 25 July, the passing on of good luck is celebrated in the Brotherhood and Guild of Seafarers of San Pedro. A young woman carries the box during the parade, spinning as many times as she can without letting go of it.
Hondarribia Blues Festival
In the first fortnight of July this festival is held, with several concerts bringing together great bands and internationally renowned performers.
